i am not sure if this is related to this .but i have 2 ball pythons, this morning i noticed them sorta a standing and intertwined together,so i was wondering if they were mating?most of the time they spend there time wrapped up together, but this was different.thank you,Brenda
Sorry it took so long to get back to you, Brenda. I’ve been very busy. This may have been a breeding pair, but the only way to tell is if the actual sexual organs are connected, at the cloaca (opening near the end of the tail). Typically ball pythons will coil up together, wrap around eachother, and sor of cuddle. There are, however, some indications that a female is ready to breed (a male is typically always ready to breed). A female will go through a shed cycle and then start getting larger around the midsection. These are folicles growing, that will eventually become eggs (there is much more to the process, but those are the basics). If the female is shedding or had just shed, it may be time for her to breed. Look for indications that she is getting larger around the middle, and watch her. Eventually, if she is ovulating, she will begin to make wave like motions from her cloaca up through her distended belly, instead of remaining still in her enclosure. This still does not mean that the snakes copulated or that the eggs are ferilized. This is a normal cycle for all mature female ball pythons, fetilized or not. It would just be an indication that at the time you saw them possibly copulate, it would have been the right timing.
